a star-studded heist gone wrong.
“We need a killer graphic tease for Soderbergh’s new film. Lots of stars, set in the 50’s, car culture, jazz... just make it really cool.” (we’re not paraphrasing the brief. that really was the brief — and we were all in). Thank you HBO MAX!
No Sudden Move, the first of three films that Soderbergh will produce for HBO MAX, is on par with his Ocean franchises in terms of star power, and selling this incredible cast was the primary objective of the teaser. The film is set in 1950’s Detroit so creating an aesthetic that was true to the period was of equal importance, without it feeling TOO retro.
Our design teams were up the challenge, creating visually arresting compositions that framed each A-Lister in era-centric bold colors, shapes and typography, while simultaneously lending a modern edge. Footage would not be available for this tease, relying instead on supplied production stills. Undaunted, our animation team began extensive projection mapping, helping to create a sense of energy and movement throughout.
That, coupled with dynamic type animation and an amazing music track set to Jac Ross’s modern (yet retro) interpretation of “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”, this teaser is firing on all cylinders.
